About

Welcome! My name is Joy- I’m a girl from Boston, MA who simply LOVES to bake! I am happiest and truly feel at home when my mixer’s running, I’m covered in batter and have spatula in hand. If I’m not at work in the kitchen, I’m probably watching the Food Network, searching for new recipes in my beloved cookbooks, culinary magazines, or favorite cooking/baking blogs, or daydreaming about my next birthday cake, loaf of bread, or batch of cookies. It warms my heart to make special treats for my family and friends, and I jump at the opportunity to spread my lovin’ from the oven every chance I get. I’m so excited to document my culinary adventures on this site, and meet other enthusiastic cooks, bakers, and bloggers along the way! 🙂

Feel free to get in touch anytime either by leaving a comment here on “Hot Oven, Warm Heart” or sending an email to joy.d.saunders@gmail.com. I’d absolutely love to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to say hello!

  1. I just visited Boston over Memorial Day weekend with hubby. We had a great trip (first time visiting the East Coast – loved it!). Highlights of the trip were definitely the whale watch excursion and a tour of America’s Test Kitchen.

It made me smile when I read that you like to make your birthday cake. That’s exactly what I did about a month ago. I posted it on my blog.

  2. Hi there, I was told about your blog by a good friend, Karen, who says she was room mates with your mom in college. I love to bake! Cupcakes are my soul mate and will jump at any reason to make them, including reasons like ‘hey it’s Tuesday!’ I’ve just started reading your blog and I’m really looking forward to reading more.
PS. I too find comfort in the sound of my mixer running (she’s actually the same as your header).

  3. Hi Joy,
I just joined your Round 12 team for Baking Gals. Can you provide guidance on how many cookies to bake, can we send other goodies (if so what), and any tips. I live in the Boston area!!!

  4. Joy;

I just finally took a look at your blog – delightful! And so informative. I’m feeling a little uneducated – but now better educated after reading portions of your blog!

  5. Hi Joy!
Thank you for the kind comment on my blog. Its nice to recieve a personal message from someone commenting for the first time. It is something that I need to do more often. I find that I get to know a person through their blog just by reading their posts (but never commenting) and I forget that they don’t know me!

I’m also looking forward to sharing our experiences baking together for the next year. I definately do not have much experience in making any type of Southern cake, so its going to be a learning experience all around. Your site is great too – very fresh! I’ll be sure to come back and visit often.

  6. Love reading your posts and I’m drooling over the photos. Your passion for baking definitely shows!
I just joined Round 14 and totally enjoyed the experience. Being from Southern CA myself, the San Diego group was an obvious choice.

  7. Wow is all we can say about the wonderful chocolate cupcake filled with delicious white chocolate mousse! A work of art, but more than that, an explosion of flavors in our mouths. You are truely an artist. Would love to have Gourmet Magazine taste these. Hmmmmm yes indeed. If we still had our restaurant, you would be our baker. Thank you and keep baking, and of course we will be your tasters.

  9. As you know I love your blog, not to mention any creation you decide to whip up! But I am actually just dropping you a quick line to another very cool blog that seems right up your alley :

    http://theforeignkitchen.blogspot.com/

I stumbled onto it by accident- actually looking for a good Erdbeerkuchen recipe- and it really impressed me. I thought you might like to look at it too.

Please let me know what you think.

  10. This Joy can bake! Thank you for your awesome additions to The Great American Bake Sale. The thumbprint cookies with the homemade jam were my daughter’s favorite! If you read my blog (http://mothermayhave.com) you’ll know how much of a food critic she is so I think this is high praise indeed. 🙂

Keep up the wonderful work in the kitchen and the thoughtful blogging!

    Peace,

  11. hi joy, i apologize for taking so long to get to your site. the pictures alone are a work of art and enough to coax anybody into trying any if not all your recipes ! i’m not much of a baker, more of a cook, but i might be tempted to try my hand at the sticky buns (how outrageous are they ??) i’ll keep you posted as to the outcome. what a great piece of work this page has become, a true labor of love !!

  12. Hey sweetie pie, Rip is so amazed by your baking, he was so happy to talk to you and that the 2 of you might have a bit of work together. We think your baking is the best we have ever seen.
